Marana Rotarian Don Jorgensen was recognized by the White House for his efforts on behalf of the global disaster relief organization ShelterBox USA, a project partner of Rotary International.
Our very own Don Jorgensen, District Governor-elect, was named a 2022 recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his work on behalf of ShelterBox USA. ShelterBox USA is a global disaster relief organization that provides emergency shelter and household supplies to people displaced from their homes by natural disasters or armed conflicts. ShelterBox has been Rotary International’s project partner for disaster relief since 2012.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award is a special recognition by the White House. It is part of a national program created in 2003 through the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation for individuals of all ages who contribute at least 100 hours of volunteer service.

Last year, ShelterBox provided emergency shelter and supplies to more than 143,000 people in 11 different countries, thanks to the efforts of Jorgensen and many others. This year, for example, the Rotary Club of Marana joined efforts with many other District 5500 clubs to fund ShelterBox relief efforts in Ukraine.
