President De La Cruz called the meeting to order and following The Pledge of Allegiance we went straight to:

  • Harold- Enjoyed Installation dinner. Meeting write up and photos on website.
  • Cindy- Lovely installation dinner, ceremony and chat afterwards. Family B'day get together at DQ.
  • Bob- New grandkid doing fine as is mother, her first! Enjoys holding baby and this is one more that adds to the Virginia tug, but he really likes AZ.
  • John- Looking forward to train trip in Canadian Rockies and RI Conference. Leaves tomorrow morning. 
  • Mark- Summers are different for MUSD admin folks vs teachers. Marana Vista Academy opening with 100+ kids and Tangerine Farms, new K-8 opening with 500 students.
  • Beckie- Enjoyed Installation evening. Headed to a beach near Salem, OR with temps in the 60's.
  • Andrea- Dinner with parents.
  • Peter- Arrived too late for HB's. Went to NWFD not realizing we were virtual.

Announcements

  • Three months of roadwork has started in the Twin Peaks area that is planned to be completed before fall school starts.
  • RI President Elect for 7/1/2025 has stepped down. More later on this topic.
  • The Rotary Club of Marana was mentioned in the District newsletter as being #1 in per member giving and Harold Burtzloff named as a major donor. Great job!
  • Cindy advised the short term student exchange with India has fallen through and may be replaced with Netherlands.

Member Bob Bishop is on the state advisory board for TRVFA and meets 4X a year. Demand is growing faster than donations. Bob stressed that if 20% of AZ Rotarians took advantage of the $1,000 TAX Credit TRVFA budget would be met. As most know, TRVFA provides up to $2,000for trade school attendees who are within 150% of poverty guidelines. Student must be 18 or over. If in second year of a two-year program grant could be $3,000. Students are limited to one grant per lifetime. Initial vetting is done by statewide board and second stage vetting is done by local clubs. Excluded expenses are transportation, rent, utilities, food. Must be legal resident of AZ. Potential grant from our club's foundation to TRVFA was mentioned. For more information: https://trvfa.org
