The club recognized MCAT Star Student of the Quarter Naveah Huish.
Location; MCAT. Meeting not broadcasted so no virtual attendees.
Speaker: Denise Green, Principal of MCAT, MUSD's alternative high school
Attendees: Don and Kathy Jorgensen, John and Cindy Dooling, Andrea de la Cruz, Mark Goligoski, Harald Burtzloff
Prior to the start of the meeting, Kathy Jorgensen and other members delivered numerous boxes of snacks to be made available to students on an "as need" basis.
President Andrea opened the meeting by welcoming club members and possibly two dozen MCAT faculty and family members of the Student of the Month.
Former Rotarian and current Principal of MCAT Denise Green was introduced by President Andrea and Ms. Green in turn introduced Naveah Huish as Student of the month.
At this point note taking responsibilities were handed over to Cindy Dooling due to my hearing challenges. Highlights were as follows:
First attended school in Safford until second grade when family moved to Tucson's eastside.
Naveah will graduate in three weeks. Her brother attended and graduated from MCAT. The covid year(s) were quite a challenge and the family lived in a hotel. She enrolled her sophomore year, which is earlier than most MCAT students. She was Student Ambassador and ran the store for MCAT. She enjoyed this role and has a knack for inventory and business management skills. She says MCAT helped her to mature and develop patience and anger management. She is very happy and pleased with her experience at MCAT.
She intends to attend Pima Community College after taking a year to work and save up money. At Pima she will work towards an Associate Degree in Business Management and Accounting. Long range plan is to own her own barbershop.
Naveah's mother is naturally quite proud of her confident and competent daughter whose dynamic personality was on full display during our meeting.
President Andrea presented Nevaeh with gift cards from the Rotary Club of Marana.
The work session that was planned for the Marana Food Bank following our meeting was cancelled to be rescheduled at some future date.
