Marana Rotary Club
November 22, 2022 weekly meeting
Laura called the meeting to order at 7:02 a.m. The meeting this week is Zoom only. Laura started the meeting with a 10 minutes of social time where everyone enjoyed some casual conversation.

For Happy Bucks, week of Thanksgiving, what are we thankful for:
  • Randy was thankful for so much and particularly that Deb was feeling better.
  • John was thankful for recently spending time at breakfast with some friends he met back in 1967.
  • Cindy was thankful for her daughter’s 25th birthday and looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with 50 family members. And Cindy was grateful for Don’s improving health.
  • Dan was thankful for so many things, especially being surrounded by amazing people.
  • Don was thankful for his family and that Mary’s health continues to improve. And, thankful for this past year nearly being over!
  • Andy was grateful for the amazing life he has led and the awesome things people do for one another in these trying times.
  • Mary was thankful for all the support she has received during a tough year, life is wonderful.
  • Denise was thankful for Rotarians, her Company’s support, and being with family this week.
  • Mark was thankful “for lots”. He moved to Tucson one year ago and was challenged by relocating alone while commuting on weekends to see his family.
  • Peter was grateful for his US citizenship about one year ago and thankful for all veterans have done for this country.
  • Beckie was thankful for her health having recovered from hip surgery one year ago, giving her the energy to keep up with two grandchildren. She also grateful for her move to Tucson from Salt Lake City.
  • Cathy was grateful for her health, family, and country; we are very lucky. We discussed how to pronounce “Qatar”.
  • Harold was thankful for family and friends in Rotary. His knees are doing better. He was grateful for his daughter and grandchildren.
  • Andrea, who drove to the fire station and was sitting in her car, was thankful for family and such a close circle of friends.
  • Laura was grateful for the resourcefulness of our club. While few riders showed up at the El Tour de Tucson Aid Station, it gave her time to connect with club members and guests. Laura was looking forward to time with siblings this week and four pies!

Business and Announcements
Cathy and Mary were able to donate hundreds of PB&J sandwiches from the El Tour de Tucson Aid Station leftovers to Casa Maria that feeds 500-800 people per day who are food-deprived.
Next week, in lieu of the regular Tuesday meeting, there will be a social, holiday dinner at Lil Abner’s, Wednesday 6 p.m. After discussion, it was decided that each will order and pay individually from the full menu. Partners and significant others are welcome. After a show of hands, Laura will make reservations for 20 people.
Rotary Club of Marana T-shirt order will be submitted now that everyone has given their sizes.
Marana Festival of Lights, December 3 from 3-9 p.m.. The setup will be similar in size and configuration to our Aid Station at El Tour. $500 has been approved for cookie purchase and Peter volunteered to do a test run to Costco to see what our options are for buying 1,000- 1,5000 Christmas cookies to give away. Andrea reports that expectations are between 3,000 and 12,000 attendees to the lights festival!
Holiday support initiatives- much discussion was held regarding Dot Santi’s proposal to adopt a student through YES (Youth Education Services) and our usual initiative to adopt 1-3 families for the holidays. Don supported the idea of giving gift cards through YES. It was felt that we should also continue the adoption of family(ies) as we’ve always done. Don also suggested that YES give us a follow-up report on the impact of the YES initiative on students in need. Dan will reach out to identify potential families to consider, considering the size of the families with regards to our abilities and budget. The Board will follow-up at its upcoming meeting to consider, take action, and make the proper requests to the Marana Foundation for funding these two initiatives
Following everyone wishing each other a Happy Thanksgiving!!!, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 with the Four-Way Test.
