Marana Rotary Club
October 25, 2022 weekly meeting
Laura called the meeting to order at 7:03 AM. The meeting this week is virtual only dedicated to club business. Happy Bucks were the first topic. Attendance was 16 people!
Happy Bucks:
  • Peter began saying he is happy to be back after three weeks in Florida.
  • John was happy that he was able to turn up the volume on his computer so he could hear everything, even though it likely is causing their windows to rattle!
  • Carol was enjoying her coffee and the cool weather.
  • Harold was happy that everything “Zoom” was going well and hopes he can enjoy his Tucson ritual of wearing shorts into November.
  • Kathy J. was happy to be leaving for New York this Thursday to visit family.
  • Don reported a nice recent hike in the Chiricahua Mountains.
  • Adam was grateful for the cooler weather and was joining Harold in the shorts challenge.
  • Andrea was happy for being able to wear her sweaters, finally.
  • Andy was happy to have recovered from some power outages, but wondering what happened to his heating system.
  • Beckie was happy to be in Arizona and not Utah anymore where Andy was fighting winter storms.
  • Randy would pay good money to see Andy do gymnastics (in reference to Andy’s comment about doing gymnastics to get help on repairing his systems in a remote area). Randy also mentioned his and Mary’s visit to see Lynne who is in dire straits fighting cancer and facing some tough decisions. All are encouraged to reach out to Lynne.
  • Cindy loves the “flip flop” fall season in Arizona and commented that her Bunco group decided to pool their winnings and donate to charity. This week’s winnings went to Felicia’s Farms!
  • Denise was happy for a restful vacation which allowed her to catch up.
  • Cathy thanked Cindy for the donation and was happy to have caught up with a sister whom she had not seen for 2 ½ years.
  • Dan commented on a very successful meeting this past Sunday with Laura and Beckie regarding Tour de Tucson matters. He was looking forward to elections being over…..aren’t we all?
  • Mary was happy to have her hair growing back and happy that she doesn’t have to worry about how it looks when she wakes in the morning! And happy to have had a visit from her niece and her boyfriend this past weekend.
  • Laura shared that she enjoyed some sibling time with her brother and sister.
Moment of Silent Reflection
Laura asked the group to take a few moments of silence to reflect and share our thoughts for Lynne, who is battling late-stage cancer.
Club Business
El Tour de Tucson- our club will share aid Station #8 with the Sahuarita Club. Dove Mountain and Oro Valley clubs may join us. Our station will be around the end at the 83-mile mark, so we may not see much traffic. There will be a planning meeting to be held on November 5th to discuss needs. Laura suggested that we consider three shifts, 8-11 a.m., 11 a.m. 2 p.m. and 2-5 p.m.. Denise reminded that supplies will be needed, 4 tables plus chairs and other supplies. Cindy said some of the exchange students will be volunteering. We may need as many as six people per shift to hold bikes and fill water bottles, depending on the number of riders stopping.
Tour de Cookie- Dan gave an update on the Tour de Cookie planning being done. First considerations are the building of the website and payment/registration processing. Alternative website builders, like Club Runner, are being considered. This year will require more expenses for T-shirts and bags, and we would like to acquire more sponsors. At $40 per rider, approximately $20 clears as profit. More sponsors will boost the proceeds. Goal is to increase sponsor numbers from 3 in the past from to 6. We should look for major local companies for sponsorships. Several possibilities were discussed.

There being no further club business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 with the Four Way Test led by Laura.
